We previously reported on Crossboundaries' massive rooftop park in Shenzhen and now the company has completed a project at the opposite end. Called Fàng Sōng, the houseboat is powered by a solar panel setup and features a space-saving interior inspired by tiny house design.
Fàng Sōng gets its name from the Chinese for relaxation. The impetus for the project came when the owners found themselves living near the coast for the first time in decades and wanted to enjoy life on the water. Purchasing a boat, they commissioned Crossboundaries to transform it into a small residence suitable for living and working.
“Crossboundaries has redesigned a completely solar-powered motorboat with high-end tiny house features that allow it to function as a slow-motion travel nest,” the firm explained. «The five-year-old boat caught Marianne's attention, the resemblance of its exterior to a bus on the water and the potential for interior design quickly piqued her interest. With enough space for up to two people plus guests, she had the potential to easily become a personal retreat to recharge and a cozy getaway to invite friends and family.
Considering its tiny house inspiration, its interior is relatively spacious and measures square meters, distributed over a single floor. The floating home features generous glazing, much of which is operable, max C Level Executive List imizing natural light and ventilation inside. Its decoration looks very bright and cheerful, although those contrasts of primary reds and yellows are not going to be to everyone's taste.
A fairly large part of the available floor space is occupied by the living room, which houses a sitting area with a large sofa bed, shelves and a desk overlooking a window. The kitchen looks well-equipped and includes an oven, four-burner propane stove, sink, and refrigerator, plus a folding dining table that can be stored away when not in use.
In addition, a folding bed can be installed above the helm, and almost the entire living space has generous underfloor storage space. A pellet stove, controlled remotely by an app, covers heating needs, and there is an outside terrace with seating.
We don't have hard figures on the capacity of its solar panels, which are installed on the façade and roof, nor the type of electric propulsion, but Crossboundaries says that, under ideal conditions, the tiny houseboat can be powered entirely by solar panels and can sail about km ( miles) per day.
Looking ahead, the owners plan to upgrade the Fàng Sōng with a water purification system and some form of biological wastewater treatment unit , allowing the floating residence to remain offshore for longer periods.
